Yet another Property Investment Tax Question. This time regarding Property Management Firms?
Tuesday, July 29th, 2008It’s my understanding that you can deduct the fees that you paid a company to manage investment property?
Well what if I was wanting to start my own property investment firm? Could I manage my own properties and charge myself a fee and get it back on my taxes at the end of the year? Or would that open a whole new can of worms?
What if a family member had a property management firm and they charged me slightly over the norm to manage the property?
You guys see what I am getting at? I’d rather keep my money circulating between my family members than the government, especially if I can claim the management fees on my taxes at the end of the year.
Is my reasoning unethical?
Did I make a mistake by going into Management Consulting instead of Investment Banking?
Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008I’ve been a management consultant for a while and worked for some pretty well known firms - however I’ve always wondered about investment banking. I’ve accepted that life as an investment banker would be difficult for the first several years but the salaries these guys get is phenomenal. I can’t even fathom getting a bonus of $100,000
I chose consulting instead of finance because I thought financial people made cold calls all day (just like the guys from ‘Boiler room’ or ‘Wall Street’) but I think that was just a foolish assumption. I also thought you had to be a Harvard MBA to be successful in Finance but all those people paying top dollar for apartments in NYC can’t be Ivy League guys, can they??
Did I make a mistake choosing consulting instead of finance? I think anyone could put up with long hours if it meant millions of dollars in compensation!
Is it just a case of the grass being greener?
do I have to be with a firm to take the series 6 and 63 tests or can I take on my own and pay myself?
Wednesday, July 9th, 2008I am a retail banking professional looking to move into wealth management and private banking. My company is not adding anyone to investment training classes and I am wondering if I can pay for classes out of pocket and sit for the test without having a sponsoring broker. Please advise.
Entry Level Jobs in Corporate Compliance?
Tuesday, July 1st, 2008I am a recent law school graduate with a bachelor’s degree in finance. I’m looking to get my foot in the door in the the field of Corporate Compliance with either an Investment Bank, Hedge fund, Money management firm.
I have some hedge fund and financial adviser internship experience, but not any direct Compliance experience (besides my law school studies.)
What position would be a good entry level job to move in the direction of compliance. I know that many large financial firms are doing very little in terms of hiring nowadays. But how can begin to build some knowledge in this area so that I’m ready when the market picks up again? Thanks…
